This is another version of tofu popcorn, which is the perfect healthy fast food. It’s also a good meal to serve omnivores. My mother, who is pretty much anti-tofu, not only liked it but went back for more… Twice! Plus, if you are like me and have a partner who loves watching sports, you’ll soon find out that it’s also the perfect snack to enjoy in front of the TV.
It’s not the quickest recipe to prepare but it’s definitely easy to do.
- 1 block firm tofu
- 2 cups vegetable broth
- 4 tbs tamari
- 1 tbs sriracha
- 1 cup tapioca starch
- 1 cup corn starch OR arrowroot starch
- 1 tsp chipotle spices
- ½ tsp smoked paprika
- Canola oil for cooking
Using your hands, break the tofu in uneven pieces of approximately 2-3 cm long/wide.
In a bowl, mix together the vegetable broth, tamari and Sriracha and marinate the tofu for at least 30 minutes. You can marinate it for a full day in the refrigerator, ensuring the tofu is entirely covered by the mixture.
Preheat the oven at 375 degrees F
In a bowl, put the tapioca starch
3n a separate bowl, put the corn starch OR arrowroot starch, along with chipotle spices and smoked paprika
Roll the tofu pieces in the tapioca starch first and then in the second bowl
Once all covered, cook the tofu in a cooking pan with a bit of canola oil at medium heat
Cook on all side until golden (approximately 10 minutes)
Once golden, transfer to oven for 15 minutes
